Its the holiday season and that means fun. OK, the airport lines may be long, the planes over-booked, and the weather nasty, but you can still enjoy peace of mind knowing you have travel insurance for lost luggage, trip cancellation or trip interruption.

And the airline just announced that due to mechanical problems it is delaying your flight for 30 minutes. Well, you know from experience that those 30 minutes can be repeated indefinitely. You might have to check into a hotel until the flight is re-scheduled, and you want your bill reimbursed through your travel insurance.

But wait! You didnt get travel insurance.

Dont let that fact spoil your festive mood. Here are several things you can do to make your holiday travel insurance purchase easier:

Get on the internet. How can you get on the internet if you are at the airport? Several ways: You can use your phone that has internet service. You can use your computer and either purchase wireless internet use or use free wireless that some airports provide. You can find computers in the terminals that are free to use – usually these are only in international departure lounges. Go to the Information Booth at the airport, explain your problem and ask for their help.

Now find a travel insurance broker and give them a call. Its best to find a broker rather than the company that sells the insurance. A good broker will help you select the right plan for you because they work with multiple companies that sell different products, guaranteeing that they will help select a plan that suits you. Besides, there is no extra charge to use a broker.

Your insurance will start as soon as you get off the phone. Its that simple.

But what if offices are closed because it is the holiday? Again, relax. You can go to the brokers website and fill in an online application. When you do, you will receive instant confirmation of purchase.

Holiday travel means more people traveling, snow threats in the winter and storm threats in the summer, and baggage handlers and ticketing agents who are trying to stay calm. More things can go wrong during holiday travel, but the right travel insurance can help things get better.

Here are a few things your purchase gives you:

Trip cancellation and trip interruption. This really is worth the inexpensive travel insurance purchase. If you have to cancel or delay your trip for one or multiple reasons, you will be covered. Sickness, adverse weather conditions, labor strikes, if you have to serve on jury, you lost your job, you were called up for military duty, you are suddenly called back to work are all valid reasons for insurance coverage.

Baggage Loss, Damage or Delay. Reimburses you if your baggage is lost, stolen or damaged as well as reimbursing you for the purchase of essential items if your bag is delayed more than 24 hours

Travel delay. This pays for certain extra transportation and accommodation expenses if your trip is delayed for 6 or more hours.

24 hour emergency hotline services. Great for lost ticket and passport assistance.

Plan ahead and purchase travel insurance, but if you dont (because you love the adrenalin rush of pushing things to the last minute or because you just forgot), dont worry. Be holiday-happy.

br
br
pGood Neighbor Insurance can help you be holiday-happy with the right a target=_new href=http://www.gninsurance.com/travel-A/international_travel_insurance.asp rel=nofollowinternational travel insurance/a and US travel insurance plans./pbr
br
Backpackers tend to spend a lot of time at remote places, train stations and bus terminals. There are times they may face a greater risk of illness, injury or even robberies.

It would therefore be prudent to buy backpackers travel insurance before leaving for your backpacking holiday. Travel insurance for backpackers is designed specifically for the needs of backpackers, generally offering travel insurance for holiday periods ranging from one week to two years.

To find cheap travel insurance for backpackers, be sure that the package you choose eventually provides cover for the following events:

Rescue and Repatriation to cover any cost you may incur if you require the use of an air ambulance or helicopter rescue.
Emergency Medical Cover to cover the cost of any event that needs urgent medical attention.
Holiday Cancellation to cover any costs that you may incur if your holiday has to be cancelled through no fault of yours, such as bad weather or airline strikes.
Baggage and Possessions Cover to reimburse you, subject to a cap, in case your travel documents, baggage and valuables are lost or stolen.

If you intend to go backpacking several times a year, buy the annual-multiple plan. This allows you to backpack two, three, sometimes even more times a year and the insurance will cover it, as long as you travel within the period of cover. Buying one insurance policy a year to cover multiple trips will save you at least ten percent.

Look out for plans that throw in extras such as seven days complimentary coverage for winter sports. Backpackers love the flexibility of being able to change their travel itinerary as and when they like. They may feel like making an unplanned stopover and spend a few days skiing. Having an insurance plan that gives you this flexibility will save you money and still allow you to enjoy one extra activity while being insured.

br
You wait all year long, like most people, for those few weeks to relax and have the best time possible, meet new people, get some unforgettable experiences. You have decided that your holiday will be perfect and you did everything that you think is necessary to plan it to the detail. There are so many things that can go wrong from the start without even getting there, through it and on the way back home. Thats why you should be insured so situations like canceled trip, illness, baggage loss and so on will find you prepared. Purchasing holiday travel insurance could save you from a lot of money related troubles.

The most common type of travel insurance is Trip Cancellation. If your trip gets canceled for any reason, your tickets will be refunded. Another type of insurance is Trip Delay and it is good if, for example, you find out that your connecting flight is delayed for a couple of hours. Your trip delay insurance will reimburse your money.

If your baggage is lost, delayed or your stuff gets damaged during your trip you should definitely have a Baggage/Personal Effects Loss or Delay type of holiday travel insurance to cover your losses. If you are in a foreign country and you loose your passport, a Travel Document Loss type of insurance will save you from any problems of replacing it and paying for it.

On your trip, a medical emergency can occur like transport to the hospital. Medical Evacuation/Emergency Transportation type of insurance will take care of those charges. It could also happen that you get ill. In that case Accident/Sickness Medical Expenses type of insurance will cover all your expenses around medical bills. .

But thats not enough. Like everything else in life you could expect that there is a catch. The travel insurers will protect themselves from paying for things that they think could be avoided if you dont put yourself in a particular situation and by being more careful about your possessions. Your insurance policy comes with standard cover benefits and what you must pay attention to is written with small letters, special terms and conditions which tell you what wont be covered.

Remember those medical bills; small letters says that if you are under the influence of any kind of toxins and you get hurt, no medical expenses will be covered. Also if you are planning to do some extreme sports or winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, where is higher risk for you to get hurt, your policy wont cover your medical bills. So you should get separate cover for things like that. Your travel insurer expects you to behave responsible.

What they also expect is for you to take good care of your possessions. If you are taking digital camera, for example, with you (most people do) you should be aware that in case of your camera being stolen, your holiday travel insurance policy will not cover it. And even if you are responsible about your possessions, especially valuable ones, holiday travel insurance policies limit the amount that they are prepared to pay for your expensive staff. In cases like that you need to specifically insure those staff to be sure that they will be covered if stolen.

All these standard types of holiday travel insurances and these little conditions that need separate covers can help you relax and enjoy your travel, without worrying about what could unexpectedly happen and cause you additional financial problems, which can be much higher than actually paying for insurance.

br
br
pa target=_new href=http://www.HOLIDAYTRAVELINSURANCEONLINE.INFO/ rel=nofollowHoliday Travel Insurance/a puts your mind free of worrying but only if you do it right. Pay attention to standard types of insurance but even more to those little conditions written with small letters which tells you what wont be covered./pbr
br
He would never ever dream of wasting his money to line those capitalist travel insurance companys pockets by buying even a cheap travel insurance policy – no way! Thats for his Mum and Dad; old Beryl from next door who spends a week in Tenerife every year on (and sometimes off!) her mobility scooter; and those unoriginal wimps that go on cliched package tours. Travel insurance is for tourists, not for him – the traveller…the adventurer… the Backpacker!

Yes, weve all met him – but how many of us meet him six months after his holiday; insurance now a word burned like a brand into his regretful heart. Chastened, broke, stressed out and sorrowful, he spends his days not bragging of his travelling adventures, but moaning of his travelling disasters. Travel insurance – he coulda, he shoulda, he woulda. Trouble is – he didnt.

Things went bad about three days into his trip when he landed in Bangkok on a stopover to India. He decided to book a short flight up to Chang Mai for a couple of nights to see the sights. On his last night he ran into a couple of Aussie guys in a bar, and so started a pretty heavy night on the tiles. The next day, his flight (and many others!) went without him as he slept peacefully in a rice paddy field. Waking up at sunset, he had to shell out for another (very expensive) flight to try to get back to Bangkok to catch his connection to India. He didnt make it and had to purchase a new (extremely expensive) flight for that leg of his journey. Story number one – Travel insurance would have covered that.

Arriving in India, our hero put the disaster of his extra cash outlay behind him. After all, hed save heaps in India because it was so cheap. Leaving the airport in Delhi he got a taxi to a cheap hotel recommended by the driver, dumped his bag, grabbed his camera and iPod, and set off to explore the city. Arriving back six hours later, he pushed open the door to his room to find it had been ransacked, and all his clothes, toiletries and most disappointingly his two-weeks-wages North Face hiking boots had gone. Being a trooper, he took a long slug of water from the bathroom tap and resolved to keep his chin up. Story number two – Even cheap travel insurance would have covered that

Arriving in New York three weeks later, our young explorer (feet akin to tractor tyres from hiking barefoot around Southern India) looked forward to immersing himself in the delights of the city that never slept. He felt sure his luck was beginning to change. Celebrating with a cold beer under the shadow of the Empire State, he felt that finally he could begin to reminisce upon his travels without a bitter bile rising to his throat, when suddenly he began to feel very, very, very ill… Two weeks later with a stern warning from the doctors that his Giardia may reoccur sporadically throughout his life, he was discharged from hospital with shaky legs and a medical bill resembling a division one lottery win.

Story number three – Yes, you guessed it – holiday insurance would have paid for that.

After this last calamity, our unfortunate fellow immediately cancelled the rest of his world tour and returned home, (with an extra charge on his ticket for the changes) to recuperate at his parents house. Unfortunately he had to look after himself as they were both off on their package holiday to Tenerife with Beryl having a wonderful time – fully covered by their travel insurance.

Author: Harvey McEwanbr
br
Ever since the motor vehicle became a necessity rather than a luxury, driving holidays have been popular with holidaymakers of all ages – from family breaks in the countryside to teenagers on a road trip. This year, the trend looks set to continue – especially as the current recession forces many people to downsize their holiday plans and lower oil prices mean that driving could be cheaper than flying or taking the train for larger groups of holidaymakers on their way to a local destination.

However, whether youre planning to take your car from Manchester to Aberdeen or London to Paris (via Dover and Calais, of course), its crucial to check that your vehicle is in working order and fit for extensive driving trips before you embark on your holiday. This could involve a range of tasks, from getting your car serviced to checking the limits of your car insurance.

Essential things to do before setting of on a driving holiday

To make sure youre well prepared for your driving holiday, write a check list so you dont forget anything essential. For starters, its important to ensure that your car is in working order – it might sound obvious but theres nothing worse than getting stuck on a quiet country road in the middle of the night, in an area you arent familiar with, and no help in sight. By getting your car serviced at a garage a few weeks before you leave, youll be able to establish whether anything is likely to go wrong and have plenty of time to get it fixed.

Next, check that your insurance is up to date and isnt going to expire while youre still on holiday. If youre travelling within the UK, your car insurance is likely to be valid wherever you go. On the other hand, if youre planning a driving holiday in Europe, its important to call up your insurer before leaving to check whether you will be covered.

The popularity of ferry routes like Dover to Calais in France, Harwich to Hook of Holland near Rotterdam and Holyhead to Dublin mean that driving holidays in Europe are becoming increasingly popular with British holidaymakers. Yet, research released in May 2009 revealed that 38 percent of drivers dont know whether their car insurance policy covers them when driving abroad, and 18 percent wrongly think that their vehicle will be covered by their travel insurance while overseas. The specifics vary between insurers but most will only offer a few days free cover for driving in Europe – so make sure you know what options you have before leaving.

Making sure European driving cover is included in your car insurance

If you go on driving holidays in Europe regularly, it might be worth getting European cover included in your motor insurance policy as standard. Its easiest to do this when its time to renew your policy – ask your current insurer what scope there is to increase the amount of European cover days on your insurance, or conduct a car insurance comparison online to find a cheaper rate.

Dont forget breakdown cover either – most insurers do not offer UK breakdown assistance as part of a car insurance policy, so theyre unlikely to include European breakdown cover. With the right insurance in place – as well as a spare canister of petrol in your boot and a fully-charged mobile phone – youll be able to embark on your driving holiday with the peace of mind that, should anything go wrong on the road, youre well protected.

br
So youve booked your flights, accommodation and even your hire car without too much of a hassle, and are looking forward to a chilled, rejuvenating holiday. Unfortunately, theres still a final issue to deal with before you can completely let go: sorting out your travel insurance. Not the most enthralling of tasks, and somewhat daunting to the first time buyer as there are so many questions surrounding it.

Where will you buy your insurance? Who can provide you with the ultimate deal? What exactly do you cover for? And, most importantly, is travel insurance truly worth the bother? Taking travel insurance too lightly has caused excessive distress for many travellers – so here youll find 5 hints which aim to clarify the significance of travel insurance, and to help you make your decision with a clear head.

1. Dont think you can travel without it. When the process of buying travel insurance seems like one extra headache that you could do without just before your holiday, it can be tempting to think whats the worst that could happen? This, however, is a bad move. You may well have a holiday that goes off without a hitch, but there is always the possibility that something could go wrong – be it minor or major – and leave you with unnecessary stress and an empty wallet.

2. Consider how frequent a traveller you are. You may just be planning the one holiday at the moment, but before buying single trip insurance its wise to consider whether youll be travelling frequently and therefore better off with annual cover. Annual insurance policies can be very reasonably priced and are often better value for money if you intend to travel twice or more during the year.

3. Consider what kind of traveller you are. Another complication of travel insurance is that most companies offer policies that cater to different kinds of traveller – backpacker, skier, golfer – so you have to consider what you need covered before picking one thats right for you. A family holiday, for example, wont require the same kind of accident cover as a winter-sports holiday, so insurance will probably be a bit cheaper.

4. Shop around. Dont just jump at the first insurance policy you find on the internet, because the process of searching seems too overwhelming. Yes, it may require a little extra time and effort to make an informed search, but you will reap the benefits of your preparatory, when dealing with policies that can vary so much in price and details.

5. Dont leave it to the last minute. Above all, buying your travel insurance shouldnt be something that you do in a panicky rush – a cool head and time for research is the best way to get a great deal.

Though its not the easiest process to get your head around, searching for your first travel insurance policy shouldnt be too difficult as long as you know what to expect. Always do your research carefully, and read over the policy so that you can be sure youre covered for all your needs.

Going on holiday for most people is the chance to chill out and get away from their everyday life for one or two weeks, or if they’re lucky, maybe even more than that. You want to enjoy yourself and not have to worry about all the mundane tasks that normally face you on a daily basis. Relaxing and enjoying yourself is what holidays were made for. But in order for you to fully relax, you need to be assured that you are covered for all eventualities. You do not want to have to worry about what you will do in the unlikely event that some disaster befalls you while you are away from home. Imagine how you would feel if your apartment was broken into and your valuable possessions were stolen? Or if your luggage was lost at the airport and you had to wait days before you got your bags back? Travel insurance may be an extra cost but you are paying for the peace of mind that it will provide if anything were to go wrong.

There are a number of different packages available for those going abroad and the first is the basic package. This will cover one trip and is specific to the holiday you have planned. It will cover costs such as cancellation of flights, medical insurance and loss of luggage etc. This is perfect for a family or individuals who are taking one holiday per year and want cover for that particular holiday only. There are other options which you can add to the plan which would increase the premium slightly.

If you are lucky enough to be able to take more than one holiday per year, then you might want to look into purchasing a multi trip travel insurance policy which will cover you for all your trips abroad, whether for pleasure or for business. You should check with the insurance company to see if there are any limits on the number of trips that it will cover. It can be tailored for your specific requirements.

For anyone wishing to travel abroad for a long period such as those going around the world for a year or so, there is a long term insurance package available which can cover from three months up to eighteen months. Many students take a year out after completing their studies and travel abroad to places such as America and Australia and plan to work in these countries. A long term insurance package is perfect for them.

There are other insurance packages for different requirements and your insurance company can help you decide the best one for you.

The last year saw major catastrophes, occurring in the travelling industry. Several airlines closed down, tens of thousands of travellers were left stranded overseas as a result, and travel agents were found to be using “misleading sales tactics” to sell holiday goers with their travel policies.

As of January 2009, travel agents will need to be regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) or become Introducers or Representatives of an FSA-regulated company in order to sell travel insurance.

Misleading advice
The travel insurance provider, Sainsbury’s has welcomed the change in the law, and also warned that several people are still at present falling victim to underhand and misleading sales tactics used by some unscrupulous travel agents to ensure that their policies are purchased. This has resulted in thousands of people wrongly being sold travel insurance by travel agents every year.

The insurance provider also revealed that five per cent of travellers, who claim to have bought insurance from travel agents in the past 12 months, – as many as 407,000 people – were wrongly told that they could not book their holiday, unless they also took out the cover being offered by their agents at the time.

Sam Marrs, Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance Manager said: “This is an alarming finding, but it will be much more difficult for rogue travel agents to do this once they are regulated by the FSA. Our research shows that up to as many as 8.14 million people could have bought insurance from travel agents over the past 12 months and the new regulation will provide consumers with valuable much needed protection.”

Moreover Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance’s research also reveals that travel insurance policies sold through travel agents could potentially leave thousands of people with inadequate cover. Some 16 per cent of those who have purchased travel cover from travel agents this year claim they were not asked about any pre-existing medical conditions, slightly down from 17 per cent last year. However the problem of travel agents failing to outline what insurance does and does not cover has become worse, affecting 17 per cent of customers purchasing cover from travel agents in the past 12 months, up from 13 per cent last year”.

Rescue plan from Saga
In the light of all the disruption and distress that failed airlines cause to travellers, the travel insurance provider, Saga Insurance, which specialises in insurance policies for older people; has introduced a new policy that provides cover in the event of an airline failure.

A large and increasing number of older people travel independently. Saga Travel Insurance has stated that it has protected around 2 million holidays, since its inception and the breadth of cover has developed over the years in response to holiday trends and customer feedback. It was following such feedback from our intrepid over 50s customers that Saga Travel Insurance has introduced extra protection covering scheduled airline failure.

In the event of the scheduled airline that the traveller is flying with goes into administration, the new cover provides up to

When retirement comes around many pensioners want to go traveling and at this time will need to consider travel insurance. Retirement is a great time to visit the world or even your own country and spend some time seeing the things you have always wanted to see. Of course we all hope that our holidays will be some of the fondest memories, but there are times when things go wrong. At these times it is comforting to know that you have a travel insurance policy to get you out of trouble.

A quality travel insurance policy covers such events:

Lost, damaged or stolen luggage and/or important documents.
Stolen cash and travelers checks.
Sickness, death and hospital cover (including medical evacuation cover).
Airline cancellations or missed flights, hotel cancellations and holiday cancellations.
Disasters and catastrophes (this should include both natural and man made disasters).
Legal expenses.

It is a good idea to review the exclusions of your policy to make sure you know what is and what is not covered. It is also worth checking with your credit card company as many offer complimentary travel insurance if you use your card to purchase the tickets. Pensioners will generally be charged an additional premium on their travel insurance that will vary according to age and it is a good idea to compare the different companies to find the best deal. On top of these premiums older people will often be charged an excess if you they need to make a claim. You must disclose all pre-existing conditions when purchasing travel insurance.

When you see an ad for ‘cheap travel insurance’ what is your gut reaction? Are you immediately suspicious, assume there must be a catch and quickly move along?Or do you look no further than the cheap price and tick another boring detail off your holiday ‘to do’ checklist?

The wise traveller will look a little deeper than the price to ascertain the levels of cover included. It may well be that cheap travel insurance is sufficient to cover the necessities and planned activities for your trip, but always check to see exactly what you are -and are not – getting for your money. Cheap travel insurance may be adequate for one type of trip, but totally inadequate for another. It is important to:

 Know what you need
Understand what it all means
Then shop around

For example, if you were planning a ski trip to Colorado cheap travel insurance alone would not be adequate – especially without the addition of winter sports cover.Check to see if the policy includes ample cover for medical expenses and emergencies, as well as mountain rescue, air ambulance and repatriation. Also check the amount of excess you are required to pay (known as ‘deductible’ in the U.S.) which is your contribution towards any claim.Medical care in the United States could be financially devastating without insurance. For example, air ambulance costs to bring you back to the UK from America could set you back anything up to 50,000 (GBP -Pounds Sterling) and from Australia up to 20,000 (GBP).If you don’t have adequate insurance no one else is going to pay these costs for you- they are your responsibility. Yes, a frightening thought!

Insurance companies tendnot to get a lot of sympathy. However, one fact that many travellers may not be aware of is that although the underwriter has to accept any losses associated with claims, it also reflects negatively on the insurance broker who sells the policy. If a large amount of claims are made, causing the underwriter to make a substantial loss, that loss is usually passed along, either in an increase in fees to the insurance broker to renew the contract or, in extreme cases, refusal to renew the broker’s contract.Perhaps you can understand why many companies are nervous about insuring certain types of travellers and activities.

Cheap travel insurance is offered everywhere these days, by retail chains, banks andcredit card companies, to name a few. However, before you give in to a tempting offer, stop to see if it is really a bargain. The media is bombarded with clever advertising for the many insurance comparison websites, and they do provide a valuable service – as long as you remember to check the levels of cover provided.Companies have to pay a commission to the hosting website, so take into account the fact that they have probably cut levels of cover somewhere in order to make it worth their while.Always check the excess/deductible, and levels of cover for medical expenses, personal accident and personal liability.

An amazing amount of travellers still set off on trips thinking they do not need travel insurance.Perhaps theyare not bothered if they lose their luggage and would just replace it. But what many do not realise is that they are leaving themselves wide open to financial loss and legal nightmares in the event of an accident and potential third-party claims.

For example, imagine you are abroad and browsing in a gallery. You trip and knock over an expensive sculpture. The sculpture falls and breaks the assistant’s toe, and a chunk of it splinters and hits you in the eye. This scenario presents an expensive can of worms, both medically and legally. This is just one rather extreme example of why it is important not to forgo travel insurance.

The truth is that cheap travel insurance is not necessarily a rip-off, but it varies from company to company. Some smaller companies are able to offer a cheaper price without cutting the levels of cover by keeping their advertisingexpenses and overheadsto a minimum.

It is not alwaysnecessary to paymore for travel insurance to get better cover. Acheap policy with another company may genuinely offer the same levels of cover for less. The bottom line is that however much you pay for your travel insurance, it is importantto make sure you have adequate levels of cover and a substantial cushion to fall on if the worst should happen!
