It’s that time of the year again when most of us are thinking of going abroad on holiday. However, with the ongoing recession, many people are also considering staying in the UK to save costs and it’s estimated that one third of us will be doing so this year.

If you are planning to go further afield, here are 15 money saving tips that could help your pocket and allow more to be put aside for your next holiday!

Booking flights – Do your homework. Plan well in advance when booking flights directly and check out discount websites for the best deals.
Connecting flights – OK, it may be a pain and take you longer to reach your destination, but it could save you significant sums.
Be flexible on your actual travel dates – It’s often the case that travelling a day or so before or after your first choice can save you a significant sum, especially by avoiding weekends.
Book a bundle – There are many deals that save money by buying flights, hotels, car rental etc together.
Go off season – if you are not restricted because of school holidays etc, you may even be able to go two weeks for the price of one by avoiding peak times.
Stay outside the centre of towns or in towns close by – Hotels etc will be much cheaper, all for the sake of a short bus ride.
Avoid hotels – Normally this is the expensive option for accommodation. Self catering should be cheaper. Alternatively, have you thought of a home exchange? They are really popular now and lots of agencies are around to match you up for a small fee.
Car rental – Don’t be bullied into getting a larger car than you actually need, get the smallest one with the comfort required. It should also save you on petrol! On that point, always fill up with the regular option and return the car full. Don’t let the rental company charge you for filling it up on return, it will definitely cost you!
Eating out – It’s often the case that lunches are much cheaper than dinners, so consider a larger lunch and lighter snack later. Also, do a bit of research before heading out to eat, get some local recommendations for good quality, economical restaurants.
Local transport – Look for multi-day unlimited travel passes on trains, buses, metros, etc
Taxis – Avoid them whenever possible, they may be convenient but costly compared to public transport.
Currency exchange – Many exchanges offer very poor rates, so search the internet for the best sources of local currency.
Get friendly with the ‘natives’ – Make sure you take the opportunity to chat to the locals, they will tell you the best places to eat, where to visit and where to avoid.
Snacks – Avoid overcharging in hotels, by buying snacks, drinks, water etc in local stores.
Telephones – Be very, very careful when using mobiles or in room telephones. If you really need to call home look for cheap phone cards and make sure you understand the tariffs.

If you follow at least some of the above saving tips, you should be cutting your total holiday costs, so bear them in mind, remember how to save on holidays, make sure you’ve packed your passport and enjoy!

One of the most picturesque, exotic, and historic places on earth is Europe. Most travelers agree that, Europe is the most historic place in the world. The region in Europe that I am referring to is that westerly peninsula in Eurasia. It is the land mass called the worlds second smallest continent. There are magnificent and exciting attractions in this one spot, and it is the main reason that it is a perennial favorite for travel. Getting on the list for a European tour is easy.

Upon landing, visit the tour counter at your point of entrance. Once there, youre excursion is prepared and supervised by a knowledgeable tour guide. This specialist will tell you a lot of pertinent facts regarding the history behind many of the standard visitor attractions. A knowledgeable tour guide will be able to inform you about all the facts behind them.

A European tour makes a holiday more enjoyable. Nonetheless, on your tour you will gain an unbelievable amount of information about the destination, so be prepared to absorb it. Begin your vacationing and reserve early if youre interested in this kind of holiday. Tours fill quickly. So, you will have to ensure that therell be space for a particular date. Youll want to get yourself on the European tour list as soon as is possible.

While it is easy to become listed with a tour company, it is difficult to decide what tour you want exactly. Thats because there are so many marvellous alternatives. One of the tour companies, Image Tours is a terrific firm that has been around since 1939. This firm offers an array of exciting and affordable European tours daily. To do this they use over 400 different specialists and knowledgeable travel partners across the globe. If youre looking on the Internet for tours of Europe, you might try asking your search engine for the European Tour Directory. Youll find the information in the listing a great help in planning which tours youll take.

Another great vacationing alternative is Grand European Tours. This company has been in business for over 27 years. They have holiday friendly and knowledgeable staff, always more than willing and able to assist you with anything that you may require. They believe that an excursion ought never to be rushed. And, their tours run at a very relaxed pace.

A more affordable but a company that may not offer as many frills, is Cosmos. The holiday company has been in business since 1999. Customers have access 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Among the many tour companies to consider are some other affordable companies such as Globus, Trafalgar, and Insight. Each of these reputable tour companies has its own specialty and staff. You should research thoroughly to see if any of them will meet your needs.

When you start planning your holidays, you have to answer the question what kind of holiday is right for you. You must identify your expectations. But I know its not easy. So what to do? Quick answer – enter: noclegi nad morzem or noclegi w g?rach in your browser. Dont worry – both have their own advantages.

Does it happen to you that you find some good offers, but the price is too high? Here you wont have such problems. Great number of different offers gives you the possibility to choose the most suitable one. When you are thinking about accommodations at the seaside you have to decide if you want to live near the beach or in the city center. You can visit a small village to take advantage of its peaceful landscape where you can rest, read an interesting book, enjoy your stay not even seeing other people. On the other hand, if you are a kind of person that loves busy city even during vacation, you need discos, pubs to have a great time, of course there are also many options. The same situation comes while looking for accommodation in the mountains. No doubt that everything will be organized in order to suit not only your needs, but also your pocket. You can live in a five-star hotel, very cosy boarding-house, homely agro-tourist farm or on the camping site, depending on your choice. The offer is really vast, so everyone will find something interesting for himself.

For some people relaxation might involve cycling or swimming, for others it means only lying on a sandy beach with a cocktail in their hands. In Poland both of them can be satisfied. If you choose the mountains, certainly you will find a lot of tourist routes or bicycle paths. Also places at the seaside are situated close to sports centers. Holidaymakers can use many playgrounds, swimming pools, golf grounds, tennis-courts, stud farms, gym halls with trainers who will take care of their fitness. There are also many options to do something that gives a big dose of adrenaline, for example: bungee jumps that are organized in most of Polish cities at the coast. You will also find many playgrounds and other attractions for children. There are many places where you can rest while somebody is looking after your child. Sports fans will also be satisfied, especially in the summer, as there are many festivals and sports competitions, not only for professionals but also for amateurs. To sum up, wonderful amusement guaranteed…

But what if you dont like active resting…Dont worry!!! There are plenty of offers for you. You can choose the seaside and lay on a beach all day long, getting a beautiful suntan. Do you prefer sandy or stony beaches? Maybe you are more interested in SPA resorts? You can have all you dream about. If you choose the seaside you can take advantage of maritime climate and iodine. But if you choose the mountains you can also take a breath of clean mountain air without any pollution.

Are you interested in seeing some monuments, visiting old churches, castles or museums? In Poland there are a lot of places to do that. And, what is more, they often will be very close to the place of your accommodation. There are a lot of tourist attractions. They will give you some knowledge about history not only of Poland but of the entire Europe. You can get to know Polish tradition which is really unusual. Especially if you decide to choose the mountains, you can see mountaineers with extraordinary clothes and speaking various dialects.

Both, at the seaside and in the mountains, you can admire wonderful landscapes. You can see national parks and sanctuaries with wildlife almost unchanged by a man. It is really impressive. Holiday is the time to make new friendships. Seaside and mountain resorts are full of clubs, cafes, and pubs. If you want get to know new foreign cuisine, you can take advantage of rich offer of restaurants, inns or pizzerias. You can also taste regional dishes, which are approachable only in Poland.

Entertainment is one of the most important things during holidays. Thats why in many resorts there are pool halls, cinemas, bowling alleys, amusement arcades and even casinos. Of course, everyone has different needs and expectations, but seriously, in Poland choosing noclegi nad morzem (seaside) or noclegi w g?rach (mountains) you will find something for yourself./pbr
Many skiers and snowboards now go on their ski holidays by car. There are some benefits about driving that cannot be ignored including the cost, self drive ski holidays will be cheaper if there are a few of you. Secondly, taking children becomes less stressful, you can just throw everything you need in the car. Finally, against popular belief it can be fun too! Here are some suggestions to make your self drive ski holiday as smooth as possible.

1. Consider resorts closest to Calais – good options are Flaine, Morzine or Chamonix.

2. Choose between the cheaper ferry or a faster Eurotunnel. The ferry will take 2 hours, whereas a Eurotunnel will only take around an hour, if traveling late or early this time saving will be noticed.

3. Make sure you only take the toll roads. The national routes in France will take a lot longer, a lot, lot longer, and its just not worth it for the cost saved.

4. Make sure you make efficient use of your stops. If you need to get petrol, make everyone go to the loo, if you need to stop for a loo break, then you may as well fill up with petrol.

5. If youre traveling with children, then its worth taking DVD players, and games consoles. Plus once in resort they can be used, to entertain them, leaving you with some relaxing time.

6. If youre traveling with friends, then it may well be worth looking at getting everyone insured on the car, so you can drive without stopping so much.

7. If youre not short of time on your trip to and from your ski resort, then itll be much less stressful if you stop at a hotel en route and complete the journey in two days. Accor Hotels is a good place to start as they run several chains of different budget hotel chains. The cheapest is Formula 1, youll find one of these every 30 miles or so on the motorways, they also run the Etap hotels and Ibis.

8. Check your snow chains fit your car. The ski resort management are pretty good at clearing roads, but you can really never be sure that you wont arrive in resort in a snow blizzard.

9. Check out the parking at the resort before you leave. Some resorts offer free parking, or your accommodation may well have access to parking, however some resorts do charge for parking, and it would be worth knowing in advance what your options are.

10. If youre driving through France then dont forget the kit you are legally obliged to carry in your car. You will need a warning triangle, a reflective jacket and snow chains for snow covered roads.

I hope these tips help you enjoy your self drive ski holiday.

br
If youre interested in seeing new places but wish you are a single traveller, you may sometimes have found difficulty finding a travel company that can provide you with the travelling experience that you are looking for. Escorted holidays can provide the answer.

There are now a number of specialist tour operators offering specific packages for single travellers. Among the advantages of such packages is the fact that all travellers on such trips will be travelling alone.

Unlike some other holidays, this means that you can feel more comfortable as a lone traveller. After all, knowing that everyone else on the tour is in the same situation is a great way of ensuring that you dont feel like an outsider, as can sometimes be the case with other types of holiday.

Youll find that other travellers are much more approachable on these trips, making for a more pleasant experience. Equally, if you prefer to spend time on your own, then youll have plenty of time to do that.

With an escorted holiday, the group are assigned a tour guide, whos presence can be invaluable. A guide who is fluent in English and knowledgeable about the local area can really add a new dimension to your trip, giving you an insight into local customs, culture and history.

One of the other great advantages of escorted holidays stems from their evolution in recent years. Gone are the days when an escorted holiday meant a coach trip to an English seaside town.

Tour operators now offer a vast range of holiday options, from city breaks in Europe to extensive holidays in North America, Asia and Australia. You can pick a holiday that meets your needs, without having to make sacrifices.

With the range of holidays being constantly expanded, taking a trip to an exotic location as a single traveller has become a reality for many.

Escorted holidays can offer the freedom of travel, together with the assurance of travelling as part of a larger group. They are a method of organising overseas travel without the stress of attempting to book all of the various elements associated with travelling.

There has never been a better time for single travellers to take advantage of escorted holidays./pbr
br
If you are looking for extreme luxury with tropical surroundings, you dont have to look any further – the Maldives is a perfect destination for a once in a lifetime vacation.

Once a completely remote and isolated tropical paradise, the Maldives has now become a very popular holiday destination for Europeans and Americans. The Maldives is made up of a group of atolls with luxury resorts scattered around its coastline.

The Republic of Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean. Situated south of India and south west of Sri Lanka, the Maldives total twenty-six atolls with over 1000 small islands, most of which are inhabitable.

Most of the resorts have their own entities with some resorts taking up whole islands – these resorts offer great privacy and ensure a relaxing vacation. Nearly all of the holiday resorts are located on the five main atolls, which are Kaafu, Vaavu, Baa, Alifu and Lhaviyani. Alifu is the main tourist zone where new hotels and resorts are in the process of being built.

Travelling to the Maldives is pretty straightforward. Standard travel documents, such as a passport are needed, but you dont need a visa. Visas are only required if you are planning to work there.

Accommodation in the Maldives differs from resort to resort and from island to island. Some resorts offer basic huts with outdoor bathroom facilities that will give you the traditional island feel, while others offer all the standard services that we are accustomed too.

Most of the resorts in the Maldives provide some, or all, types of water trips. Night time fishing trips are a special treat. The Maldives is also known as one of the best diving destinations in the world and the resorts cater very well for this. Most of the resorts have got their own diving school.

The seas around the Maldives also provide great areas for snorkelling; the coral reefs are amazing and are full of great and wonderful marine life. But to see the full extent of the amazing sea around the Maldives you need to go deep into the sea. A deep-sea dive will certainly be worth it and these are widely available.

The Maldives is also a perfect spot for any type of water sports, especially windsurfing and scuba diving and is also a great destination for sailing and water-skiing.

Most of the resorts have their own bars and restaurants. The food is similar on most resorts with restaurants ranging from Oriental to Middle Eastern. Most resorts have coffee shops that serve light snacks. Fish and rice are the two most common dishes in the Maldives.

If you are looking for some thing different a cruise around the islands of the Maldives is certainly the best way to see the area. This is a unique experience and will give you a great insight into the region.

The resorts of the Maldives are very well known for their lavish spa treatment. Along with its stunning white sandy beaches and glorious sunshine the Maldives will certainly make for a great holiday./pbr

Every year millions of holidaymakers and business people take transport to the airport and after the flight take transport from the airport to the hotel or holiday resort and vice-versa when travel back home when the business trip or holiday is over.

An increasing number of business people or holidaymakers are choosing airport transfers as a method for being quickly and safely transported when on business trips or holidays abroad, giving a convenient alternative to car hire or having to arrange transport when arriving at the destination.

Over the last few years mainly due to the increase of individuals customising their own holidays or business trips, several companies have emerged which specialise in the airport transfers only market which offer individuals a wide range of airport transfer options.

Business and Corporate Transfers

For business people an executive car or limousine can be arranged to take an individual or group to the airport and also arrange for an executive car or limousine, and after the flight to take the individual or group to a business meeting or hotel and vice-versa when the business meeting or trip is over.

Transfers For Holidaymakers

For holidaymakers their are several cost effective airport transfer options when travelling to the airport and from the destination airport to the holiday resort or hotel.

The cheapest option is a shuttle place that can be arranged which travels round a predetermined route picking up other holidaymakers wishing to travel to the same airport and another shuttle is arranged at the destination to take holidaymakers to the different resorts or hotels.

A slightly more expensive alternative is a private taxi that can be arranged which offers a direct route to the airport and also a direct route from the destination airport to the resort or hotel.

For large groups or families minibuses, mini-coaches and coaches can be arranged which conveniently transport everyone to the airport and then at the destination airport another minibus and coach can be arranged to transport everyone safely to the resort or hotel.

All these options can of course be arranged again when travelling back home once the holiday is over offering a peace of mind start and end to any holiday experience.

Some Of The Alternatives

These are not the only transfer options available, others include transfers to and from seaports, train stations, cities, golf courses and ski slopes. There are also alternative transportation methods including helicopters, hovercrafts, boats and Hummers.

Conclusion

For Business people or holidaymakers who do not wish to hire a car or drive themselves and would like the convenience of being quickly and safely transported when travelling to and from airports, hotels and resorts with their own choice of transportation then they will find the airport transfer specialists will cater for every individuals travelling needs.

Terrorism is a challenge of the twenty first century and not only governments but even corporate groups and aid organizations are constantly facing its threat in different parts of the world.

Terrorism was not considered as part of the travel insurance plans even for international travelers until recently when westerners became the main targets of the terrorists in other countries. Even harmless tourists and travelers carry risks of being attacked or getting subjected to terrorist hijacking in many countries of the world.

These attacks are not randomly made or accidentally carried out. Sometimes, these attacks can be carefully planned and targeted only for certain groups of people. These groups of people can be ordinary citizens from western countries who are traveling across to other regions for merely travel and tourism activities.

The increase in terrorist attacks on westerns in other countries of Asia and Africa has brought in the need for introducing holiday insurance that cover suck kinds of attacks as well. The travel insurance companies have introduced holiday insurance plans that also cover insurance from terrorist attacks. But the terrorist attacks also need to be clarified. The travel insurance from terrorist attacks has not yet been standardized by insurance companies around the world.

There is still a need for proper definition and procedures involved in insuring people against terrorist attacks. For this reason, such types of insurance services and products are offered, but they are not standardized like other type of insurance coverage packages.

In fact, the insurance against terrorist attacks vary from company to company and sometimes, even from one individual to another individual. The travel insurance companies do not issue insurance services to people who travel to countries where the State Department or the Foreign Affairs Ministry has issued a terrorist threat.

Even in countries that are conflict prone and not necessarily posing threats from terrorists, the travel insurance companies make a special note of them and state to the insured people that their insurance becomes ineffective if they move to such areas.

If there is still a need to travel to conflict-prone areas, either for the purpose of carrying out some research or even for providing aid services, there are different insurance coverage packages and the insurance companies issue them under certain exclusive agreements.

Insurance companies also do not cover for every type of terrorist attack. The terrorist attacks can vary from place to place and even from one type to another. There could be random bullet shots or huge bombings and even sometimes, it could be hijacking. The insurance companies provide definitions and clear instructions on each of these attacks and make sure that the insured people take enough precautions before coming under such threats.

The insured travelers need to take extra precautions even if they have been insured by the insurance company under specific forms of terrorist attacks. The insurance companies do not provide insurance coverage to people who do not follow the regular travel advisory issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the country.

If you are going on holiday make sure you have Travel Insurance also know as Holiday Insurance because you never know what might happen!

While travel insurance is necessary for long and distant traveling, yet those who get insured also need to take precautions. Travel insurance policy provides adequate coverage for any person traveling to other areas or other countries.

However, this does not mean that one can remain carefree and stop taking precautions for one’s own safety as well as for the safety of the belongings one is carrying while traveling. Holiday insurance plans can be very attractive and one can purchase them easily, but it does not mean that one can stop taking precautions while traveling or enjoying the holiday.

The travel insurance companies clearly mention many points but these points are generally in the fine print and they are unnoticeable for the person at the time of buying the holiday insurance company. The holiday insurance company expects that the travelers are cautions about their health, well-being as well as for the safety of their belongings.

If the belongings have been stolen from a place where they have not been protected well by the owner, then the insurance company may not be able to accept he claim against the loss. The belongings lost in a locker or a safe hotel room can be considered for the claim by the insurance company because it shows that the traveler had taken precaution from his part while taking care of the belongings.

But belongings that have gone missing from an open beach or from a railway station can also indicate that the owner of the belongings was not really careful enough about them and hence, it resulted in the loss and the travel insurance company is unable to accept the claim.

Similarly, for accidental claims or even for medical claims, the insurance company has certain terms and conditions in place and expects the insured person to follow them. If the accident has happened in circumstances where the insured person himself has been found to be irresponsible like driving while drinking alcohol, then the travel insurance company may refuse to accept the claim.

The insured person has been under the influence of alcohol and it amounts to carelessness on part of him and the insurance company would be unable to provide the reimbursements for the any mishaps in this case.

Similarly, if the insured person has gone to another country and he is involved in playing extreme sports and becomes hurt or suffers an injury, then the insurance company may also not be able to accept the claim because they contradict the basic terms and conditions of the insurance policy. However, if the individual has plans to play extreme sports during his journeys, then he can seek other types of insurance plans in addition to the usual holiday insurance plan.

This could possibly help one to recover the amounts that have been lost while playing extreme sports or other dangerous games that do not fall under the ordinary travel insurance plans of the travel insurance company. These points need to be understood while taking up the travel insurance plans.

If you are going on holiday make sure you have Travel Insurance also know as Holiday Insurance because you never know what might happen!

A holiday in Mozambique sound exotic and it is. It is also still a very basic and poor country but there is hope that one day it may develop into what it deserves to be. Endless kilometers of unspoiled beach and sea, one of the best diving in this world, an interesting history and its people stand for it. We drove from Johannesburg to Tofo over Christmas for a 2 weeks beach cum diving holiday.

Despite what you may hear, you can drive safely and in a normal car to many places, provided you stay on the main roads. Some roads are very good, some have big potholes and rain can change a good road into a swamp in minutes. If you want to venture into more remote places, a 4&4 is advisable. Once you have your trip planned, enquire in advance as the status of the roads can change all the time. It is safe to drive, just take it easy, don’t speed and don’t drive at night. As a woman I drove alone with my kids and had no problem whatsoever. Just be warned, stick to the speed-limit in every village as policemen are stationed everywhere and stop you to ask you for a “fine”. Corruption is widely spread? Also fill up your tank in every big city (Maputo, Xai-Xai etc.) as in the smaller places there are no petrol stations or fuel is not available. I do speak of experience; I almost had to push my car?

From Johannesburg we left very early in the morning and had a great drive (+-5 hours) to the boarder. As it was a holiday period, the boarder can get very busy and I heard of 7 hours to pass it. We had left early and it took us “only” 2 hours in the cue and to do all the formalities. It is advisable to enquire prior about import, visa and customs regulations to avoid any delays. Visas are needed for most, South Africans and some other African nationals are exempted. You may consider staying overnight near the boarder to pass it early if traveling during a busy period. Our onward trip to Bilene (+- 4 hours) was uneventful and the slow drive through the outer skirts of Maputo gave us an idea of the poverty of this country. Despite having lived for years in Africa we had never seen so much dirt and chaos?

Once we had left Maputo, the road was excellent and we arrived well in Bilene where we stayed for 2 nights. Bilene is a little village situated next to a huge lagoon with the sea on the other side. We stayed in a wonderful luxurious lodge and enjoyed swimming and other water activities.

On to our last stretch to Tofo, most of the road was excellent and only 40 km were full of potholes (on the way back even these had been filled?.until the next rain). Tofo is a small, remote little village in a beautiful bay with many places to stay, a few restaurants and just a little market. Be warned there is no supermarket there but most goods can be bought at the market or in Inhambane. It is very laid back and the sea is just fantastic. Barra is nearby where one can find simple to 5* accommodation. The beach counts as one of the best in this world and diving from Tofo or Barra is fantastic. Most roads around this area are good but some can only be accessed with a 4&4 and when it rains, access can become a problem.

On the way back we stopped over in Maputo after a +- 8 hr drive. The seafront provides many good places to go but generally it is very poor and dirty.

Back on the road to Johannesburg early in the morning we passed the boarder after an hour’s drive and “flew through” in 20 minutes continuing our way back to Joburg. We had a great time in this unspoiled country and I can only recommend it, if you like places off the beaten track with basic comfort and the warm sea. Go there while it lasts.
